Kettan Singh says he had no idea how his joke offended Karan Johar: ‘My father even held Karan in his arms as a baby’

Comedian Kettan Singh once found himself embroiled in controversy after his mimicry of filmmaker Karan Johar on a television show sparked an unexpected reaction. Karan, who came across a promotional clip from 'Madness Machayenge – India Ko Hasayenge', took to social media to express his disappointment, calling out the act for being in "exceptionally poor taste." However, Kettan has now responded to the issue and spoken about what may have offended Karan, even after his apology.
In a recent conversation with The Lallantop, Kettan shared his perspective on the situation. According to him, the idea for the act stemmed from a previously popular segment, Coffee with Chooran, which he had performed multiple times on The Kapil Sharma Show. When asked whether Karan might not have seen the mimicry on Kapil’s show before, he responded, “It’s The Kapil Sharma Show, everybody watches it.”

Kettan first became aware of Karan’s displeasure when he received a message from a friend about an Instagram post. “Not everyone was mimicking KJo. And I only mimic those people whom I’ve observed closely. I don’t think anybody has done KJo better than me. Not a single line in that script was offensive. I never overdid anything. Yes, I retained Karan’s tendency to use double entendre. I was sitting at home on my laptop when somebody sent me a post on Instagram. It was Karan’s note. He hadn’t mentioned who he was angry at or even which channel he had seen it on. But I knew he was talking about me. I checked the promo, but I couldn’t understand why he was upset,” he said.
Kettan stressed that he had no ill intentions. He also spoke about his long-standing admiration for Karan and revealed a personal connection to Dharma Productions. “My father even held Karan in his arms as a baby. When K3G was released, it was the first time he bought us tickets for a film,” he shared.
Karan expressed disappointment rather than anger after seeing the comedian mimic him in poor taste. He stated that while he expects such behaviour from online trolls, it was disheartening to witness disrespect from his own industry despite his 25-year career.
