Dharmendra praises Bobby Deol's transition to playing villains: ‘It is far more difficult to play a grey character’ - Exclusive

Bobby’s fans have been nothing but elated by the actor’s decision to play the antagonist in different projects. His father, Bollywood’s living legend Dharmendra also expressed his contentment over his son’s conscious decision to play anti-hero and rise as the star. Speaking about the same in an exclusive interaction with us, Dharmendra said, “It is far more difficult to play a grey character.”
“I’ve done it in ‘Ayee Milan Ki Bela’ and ‘Phool Aur Patthar.’ I am very proud of Bobby’s switch from hero to villain. Whatever he does, I want him to be happy,” he added.
Bobby Deol began his career as a quintessential hero in 1995 with ‘Barsaat.’ He played various roles over the decades and showed every shade from angry young man to comic. However, his career took a turn for good when he decided to play the big bad on the screen. From ‘Ashram’ to ‘Love Hostel’ to ‘Animal,’ Bobby redefined the meaning and look of a villain in the Indian entertainment world.
Further, while speaking about his son, Dharmendra added, “Bobby has a heart of gold. He has always been close to my heart, all my children are. He went through a lean phase—we all go through that—but Bobby bounced back with ‘Animal.’
On the other hand, Bobby Deol during his interaction with us confessed that though it wasn’t a conscious decision for him to play the big bad, it was a very calculated decision for him to do interesting characters. “I don’t look at characters as positive or negative. When I watch films there is always one character that stays with me. I want to play that character,” the actor told us.
