Apoorva Mukhija reveals she felt like Taylor Swift by UNFOLLOWING everyone; Wants her kids to know ‘tumhari mummy bhi gundi thi’ after ‘India’s Got Latent’ backlash
YouTuber and content creator Apoorva Mukhija, also known as The Rebel Kid, is slowly picking up the pieces after the controversy around the YouTube show ‘India’s Got Latent’. While she’s trying to move forward, the trauma from the episode still stays with her—and her family.
'I Thought I Was Taylor ‘mother’ Swift'
The trailer of her upcoming episode on ‘BraveTalk with Nikhil’ for Yuvaa shows Apoorva speaking openly about what happened after the video went viral.
When asked about unfollowing everyone on Instagram and wiping her profile clean, she explained, “I thought I was Taylor ‘mother’ Swift. I'm going to have zero posts, zero following, and then I'm going to drop a rap video.”
A Viral Dream That Turned Into a Nightmare
Apoorva also revealed how she once wished to have her own viral moment with the media. “I always wanted to have a media video of paps screaming ‘Apoorva ji kuch boliye’... I thought I would show it to my kids, ke tumhari mummy bhi gundi thi apne time pe.”

Should media outlets provide more support for individuals facing backlash?

‘My Mum Got R*pe Threats’
Getting emotional, Apoorva spoke about the abuse and threats her family received online during the backlash. “My mom got a lot of ‘R’ words and r*pe threats. My dad always said ke samajh mein izzat rehni chaiyeh. I just felt like he lost all of that in a second. And I put them through all of that.”
She expressed anger that more attention wasn’t given to the man who made the controversial comment on the show. “I was angry that why the posts were not targeting that man, but he's just a man. I am the thumbnail. Sab log bolte hain ki hamari beti aisi na ho. I hope my daughter is like me. If I die tomorrow, I will die with regrets.”
The 'India’s Got Latent' Backlash
Apoorva was one of the comics on an episode of ‘India’s Got Latent’ in January 2025. The show faced huge backlash after fellow YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia made an inappropriate comment involving a contestant’s parents. While he was heavily criticised, a clip of Apoorva reacting during the episode also went viral, leading to intense trolling and threats directed at her. Samay Raina, who created the show, eventually deleted all episodes. Multiple FIRs were filed against Ranveer, Apoorva, and others involved.
