Anushka Sharma recently shared a reflective and cryptic message on Instagram about identity and how people perceive others differently. Her post comes shortly after her husband, cricketer Virat Kohli, publicly criticized the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI)’s new regulation limiting the time cricketers’ families can spend with them during international tours.

In her post, Anushka wrote, “A different version of you exists in the minds of everyone who knows you. The person you think of as ‘yourself’ only exists for you, and even you don’t really know who that is.” She elaborated on how each person creates their own version of others based on their experiences and interactions. “You’re not the same person to your mom, your dad, your siblings than you are to your co-workers, your neighbors or your friends,” she added.
This thought-provoking post followed Kohli’s sharp comments during the Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s Innovation Lab Indian Sports Summit in Bangalore. Expressing his disappointment, Kohli criticized the BCCI’s new policy restricting family time during tours. He emphasized how crucial family support is for players facing the pressures of professional cricket.
“It is very difficult to explain to people how grounding it is to come back to your family every time you have something intense happening on the outside," Kohli stated. He added, “I don’t think people have an understanding of what value it brings. I feel quite disappointed about that. Maybe those making these rules need to be kept away.”
Kohli, who is often accompanied by Anushka and their children during tours, suggested that decision-makers might not grasp how important family presence is for players’ mental well-being.
While Anushka’s post did not directly reference the BCCI controversy, the timing has led to speculation.
