Akshay Kumar to lead all films in 'Kesari' franchise CONFIRMS director Karan Tyagi: He’s synonymous with stories of unsung heroes

The historical courtroom drama 'Kesari Chapter 2: The Untold Story of Jallianwala Bagh', starring Akshay Kumar, R Madhavan and Ananya Panday, has struck a chord with audiences. After a solid opening, the film is now seeing steady growth at the box office. According to Sacnilk, it has collected Rs 42.20 crore crore in India so far.
But did you know that the film wasn’t originally titled 'Kesari Chapter 2'?
Akshay named it ‘Kesari Chapter 2’
Director Karan Singh Tyagi, in an interview with News18 Showsha, revealed that the team was struggling to find the right name for the film—until came to the rescue. “We didn’t have a title for the longest time. Then Akshay sir came up with the idea of naming it Kesari Chapter 2. I think it was a great suggestion. We unanimously jumped on the idea that Kesari Chapter 2 is indeed the perfect title. For us, Kesari signifies the colour of revolution and a story of valour and bravery of an unsung hero of India. It’s a title that does complete justice to the film and narrative. There are so many stories of unsung heroes in this country that are revolutionary in nature,” he said.

The ‘Kesari’ franchise is just getting started
The first 'Kesari' film, released in 2019, was also headlined by Akshay and told the story of the Battle of Saragarhi. With the release of 'Kesari Chapter 2', the makers have clearly set the tone for a growing franchise.
And according to Tyagi, Akshay will lead every single film in this expanding series. “With the title, we’re taking the mantle forward. There will be several of such stories that will bring forth more unsung heroes to the audience. There will hundred percent be more instalments and films in this franchise. And Akshay will spearhead them all. He’s synonymous with Kesari and with stories of unsung heroes and their bravery and sacrifice, and he has done such a remarkable job in this film,” he shared.

Akshay and Madhavan made it easy
‘Kesari Chapter 2’ marks Karan Singh Tyagi’s directorial debut, and he had the chance to work with some of the biggest names in Bollywood right out the gate. But despite his nerves, Akshay and Madhavan helped him feel at ease.
“They put me at ease. I was nervous initially but they’re such wonderful actors and people that they never let that pressure get to me. They broke the ice in our first meeting. It has been a dream to work with both of them. I never thought of the expectations of their fans and audience. I was just focusing on the script that we had in front of us. I truly believe that if we take care of the small things, the big things will take care of themselves,” he said.
