George Takei was extremely disturbed after the mass shooting took place at The Pulse, a gay nightclub in Orlando last year.
The massacre killed 50 people and injured 53 in the wee hours on June 12, 2016 after a heavily-armed gunman opened fire and seized hostages in the club and was touted as the worst mass shooting in the history of the USA.
On the first anniversary of the incident, the 80- year-old
actor
poured his heart out .
"The Pulse shootings shook me to the core. It brought the human cost of gun violence home for me. After Pulse, I understood the cost to our freedoms as well, as our very right to assemble was under attack. I knew we as a community had to respond," said Takei.
The actor, who is best known for playing
Hikaru Sulu
on cult show , founded gun violence prevention group, One Pulse For
America
in the wake of the attack. The group has also released a video marking the first year after the shootings.
