Amy Schumer has once again spoken candidly about her experience with weight loss medications, revealing that she is now taking Mounjaro after a difficult time with Ozempic. The comedian and actress discussed her health journey in a recent Instagram video, emphasizing her commitment to being transparent about her choices.
Switching to mounjaro after a ‘horrible’ Ozempic experience
Schumer who is 43 years old, explained that she had previously tried Ozempic but suffered extreme nausea, making it impossible for her to function. “I couldn’t even lift my head off the pillow,” she recalled, referencing her ordeal from three years ago. Although she lost 30 pounds during that time, the side effects were too severe to continue.
Now, she says Mounjaro has been a much better option. However, she pointed out that the drug isn’t typically covered by insurance unless prescribed for diabetes or severe obesity. “Most of the internet thinks I have that,” she joked, adding that her experience with the medication has been positive so far.
Opening up about perimenopause and hormone therapy
In the same video, Schumer also revealed she is going through perimenopause, the transition leading up to menopause. To manage her symptoms, she has started hormone therapy, taking estrogen and progesterone. According to her, the treatment has significantly improved her overall well-being.
“My hair is fuller, my skin is better, I have more energy and I want to get down more, if you know what I mean,” she said, adding a humorous touch to the discussion. She credited the treatment for alleviating her perimenopausal symptoms, making her feel better both physically and mentally.
A Call for honesty among celebrities
Schumer has been vocal about the importance of honesty regarding weight loss methods. She has previously called out celebrities who hide the fact that they use medications like Ozempic or undergo cosmetic procedures.
“You are on Ozempic or one of those things, or you got work done. Just stop,” she stated in a past interview. “Be real with the people.” She also admitted to having liposuction in the past and said she sees no reason to keep such decisions secret.
A personal health journey
Schumer’s openness about her experiences with weight loss medications and hormone therapy highlights the importance of finding the right medical solutions for individual needs. Her journey serves as a reminder that while some treatments work for certain people, others may struggle with side effects, making it essential to consult healthcare professionals before making health-related decisions.
