PATIALA: The accused have been identified as Sandeep Singh of Muktsar, and Gursewak Singh, Sukhveer Singh, Harbans Singh Nikri of Mansa, and Sukhwinder Singh Bobby of Bathinda but presently residing in Jawaharke of Mansa.
The accused were arrested on Sunday near Devigarh Patiala Road during which police recovered three pistols and 18 rounds, including a 32 bore pistol recovered from Gursewak Singh, which was used in the Patran firing case. These arrested individuals have been involved in several extortion and robbery cases in Punjab, said police.
SSP said these accused had planned a major robbery in Patiala and its surrounding areas and have a criminal background with cases registered against them for murder, attempted murder, robbery, and snatching. They have been involved in multiple extortion incidents across Punjab. “Gursewak, Sandeep, Sukhveer, and Harbans Singh have previously served time in various jails in Bathinda, Sangrur, Mansa, etc whereas Sandeep was also imprisoned for nearly two years for drug trafficking”, said Nanak Singh, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Patiala.
The police said during interrogation, it was revealed that these individuals were also demanding ransom at various locations in Punjab and they were planning more robberies in the Patiala region. The police are thoroughly investigating their involvement in past robberies and extortion incidents. The accused will be further questioned under police remand to extract more details.
