Over 100 food packets distributed in Ajmer areas flooded for 5 days

Ajmer: Sunder Lal (name changed) from nearby Khakheri village went to receive treatment for tuberculosis at govt-run Kamla Nehru TB Hospital in Ajmer, but was unable to reach even its entry gate. The hospital area, along with Mahaveer Circle, Bajrangarh, Kala Bagh, and Bhrampuri, are among the city’s main places that remained flooded for the fifth consecutive day on Tuesday. Markets in these areas have been closed for the last five days, and people are unable to come out of their houses. On Monday night, the district administration distributed more than 100 food packets in the flooded areas. On Tuesday, district in-charge secretary Naveen Jain came to Ajmer and held a meeting on disaster management.Rains again started on Tuesday in the morning and continued till noon. Students of a private school at Alwar Gate were rescued as the school premises and the road outside were both badly flooded. Other private schools called parents to collect their children.The district administration is flushing extra water from Anasagar Lake, but still, Anasagar link road and nearby colonies like Sukh Sagar Vihar, Vaishali Nagar, and Christian Ganj remain flooded for the fifth day. The water flushed from Anasagar Lake is going to Khanpura, and now Khanpura Lake is also flooded, resulting in the destruction of crops and vegetables in that village.An SDRF team on Tuesday again visited flooded residential areas around Foisagar Lake, which is overflowing. Additional collector Jyoti Kakwani said a committee has been formed to keep a check on the lake. She said average rainfall in the district is 550mm, but this year 690.6mm has occurred, which is 25% more.
