The public outrage erupted across the country after the attack on Hindu tourists in Pahalgam is completely natural. In the last 10 years, except for the two attacks in Pathankot and Pulwama, there was a complete blockade of terrorists in the country. These two attacks were also met with an equally harsh response. During the period from 2004 to 2014, when Dr. Manmohan Singh’s government was in power, Pakistan-sponsored terrorists were given a free rein. The attack on Mumbai by terrorists on 26 November 2008 was the culmination of this terrorism. When the Manmohan Singh government was in power, 52 incidents of serial bomb blasts and terrorist attacks took place across the country. The death toll in these attacks was a whopping 6,278. Let alone other attacks, the Manmohan Singh government did not even show the courage to respond to the attacks on Mumbai.
The Modi government gave a befitting reply to the Pathankot attack in 2016 by carrying out surgical strikes, and also showed the entire world that India will respond to terrorism in the same manner by carrying out air strikes on terrorist training camps in Balakot, Pakistan, in response to the Pulwama attack in 2019. After the 2019 air strike, Indian Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman was captured by Pakistani soldiers. At that time, the Modi government exerted diplomatic pressure on Pakistan.
Due to this Pakistan was forced to unconditionally release Abhinandan. Pakistan did not expect such a response from India. During the Manmohan Singh government, there was a situation where anyone could come to India and bomb it anytime. The Manmohan Singh government never showed the courage to respond to terrorists and Pakistan in a way that would be befitting of them. Terrorists were openly getting help from India itself. During the Modi government, the forces (sleeper cells) that were helping terrorists were decisively dismantled.
After the abrogation of Article 370 in Kashmir, the security forces were successful in curbing terrorist activities. The people of Kashmir were also gradually escaping the clutches of terrorists. As a result, stone pelting by locals on security forces has stopped in Kashmir. Focusing on the development works in Kashmir, the Modi government launched massive infrastructure development works such as expressways, national highways, bridges and tunnels. The number of tourists coming to Kashmir has increased rapidly due to the cessation of violent incidents. This resulted in the creation of many new employment opportunities in Kashmir.
Despite terrorist threats, Kashmir witnessed significant voter turnout for the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections. Disturbed by this picture, supporters and sponsors of terrorists in Pakistan attacked Hindu tourists in Pahalgam. There is no doubt that the repercussions of this attack will continue to reverberate at the international level for a long time.
The Modi government has announced the immediate suspension of the Indus Water Treaty with Pakistan. The Modi government has made it clear that the water provided to Pakistan under the Indus Treaty will not be released in the future unless it stops supporting terrorists. About 80 percent of Pakistan’s agriculture depends on the water supply from the Indus River.
If the Indus water is stopped, more than 1.7 million acres of land in Pakistan’s Punjab and Sindh regions will become a barren desert. 154.3 million acre feet of water is supplied for Pakistan’s agriculture from the Indus basin of Jammu and Kashmir. If the water supply from the Indus River is stopped, there is a possibility of a major decline in Pakistan’s agricultural production. The major hydroelectric power stations of Tarbela and Mangla in Pakistan get water from the Indus basin.
If the Indus Water Treaty is stopped, there is a possibility of a major impact on Pakistan’s power generation. Major cities of Pakistan such as Karachi, Lahore and Multan depend on the Indus River for water. The Modi government has also decided to immediately close the Attari border. Security agencies are working tirelessly to identify the forces behind the Pahalgam attack. Security agencies are putting all their efforts into tracking down the groups in Kashmir who are supporting these terrorists.
The Modi government had also organized an all-party meeting to discuss this issue. The central government is ready to teach a lesson to the terrorist forces by taking the opposition into confidence. The Pakistan government is facing a political dilemma due to the uprising in Balochistan. In this situation, the central government is taking one step forward at a time with determination to bring about permanent change in Pakistan. The Modi government has proven many times in the past that no mercy will be shown for terrorism and Pakistan will have to witness the next chapter of this in the coming days.
Dando hi Shasanayaiv, Dharmasyaiv hi Shasanam |
Dandam vina na tishtheti, lokasya dharmaasanam ||
It is the duty of a ruler to punish the perpetrator. It is necessary for a ruler to administer the state or the kingdom in accordance with the dharma. That is the meaning of this verse. And just as the verse goes, the Indians also strongly believe that the Modi government will strictly govern and take harsh action against the forces that have always looked at India with a crooked eye.
